Michael Chopra was the hero for Sunderland as he came off the bench to secure the win. Sunderland’s first came when Chopra finished well after a through-ball from Richardson and on his first appearance of the season Chopra completed the win in injury-time after a square-ball from Malbranque. Minutes before Chopra’s first, Stewart Downing blasted a penalty over the bar.
